BIOGRAPHY

Jean-Baptiste Launay, better known as Jisbar, is a French pop-street artist born in 1989 who lives and works in Lisbon.

Exhibiting all over the world: in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, London, Paris, Venice, Istanbul, Lausanne, Singapore, Mykonos, Australia, Gold Coast, Las Vegas… Jisbar is today one of the most prominent figures of his generation in the international pop-street art world.

His art is present in famous museums such as Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi or the National Museum of Immigration’s History in Paris. In the Parisian museum, Jisbar introduced his piece “Love is the New Fame” to the then President of France François Hollande during an art exhibition condemning racism and antisemitism. In 2022 he took part in an immersive exhibition at the Louvre Museum called ” La Joconde.”

He has been collaborating with major brands such as 24H Le Mans, JM Weston, Armani, BMW, Ducati, LG, Yamaha Music and several others. The latest major project blends innovation, tradition, and aesthetics to mark the launch of the Cubitus watch by the renowned luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe.

Jisbar is best known for his remakes of the most classical historical paintings such as the Mona Lisa, Frida Kahlo or Basquiat & Warhol’s boxing. His creations are an invitation to discover or rediscover the most celebrated pieces of art mixed with the codes of pop-street art. What the artist wants is to bring to them a touch of modernity. Making them more reachable, so that could be discovered by a wider public.

Each art work is more than just a remake as it has been enriched with words, sentences, numbers that create a whole new story to decrypt and push the spectator to focus on every single detail, enabling him to find new elements at every new glance. Jisbar likes to say that each piece of his work represents « moments of life ». Like a memory that would be printed forever in a photo album.

Jisbar is also known for his performance in 2019, when he paid tribute to Leonardo da Vinci on the 500th anniversary of his death. Jisbar sent a new version of his reinterpreted Mona Lisa into space. The painting hovered 33.4 km above Earth for over an hour and a half. On this occasion he became the first ever artist to achieve this performance. His technical exploit was widely applauded though international media coverage.

As a committed artist, Jisbar takes action every year to help universal causes such as the protection of the environment and the fight against racism.
